March 1: Career Night for Adkins not Enough for Chargers
The Ancilla College women’s basketball team completed their 2009-2010 regular season with a 71-55 loss to fellow Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference member, Kellogg Community College (16-12, 9-7).
Brittany Adkins poured in a career high 25 points for Ancilla (3-21, 1-15) by shooting 6-9 from the field, including 5-8 from behind the three-point line. Adkins was also 8-12 from the free throw line. Sophia Baldwin led the Lady Chargers with nine rebounds, five steals, and four assists.Ancilla hosts the NJCAA Region XII District G Tournament beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3. The Lady Chargers will be in action in the 6:00 p.m. game against the Sinclair Community College Tartan Pride (18-9). Ancilla plays their home games and will host the District G Tournament in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

February 26: Ancilla Women Drop Conference Tilt
In their final road game in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference, the women’s basketball team from Ancilla College struggled to stay within reach of conference co-leader and NJCAA #19 Grand Rapids Community College, losing 70-45.
Allison Worden was co-leader in points scored (9) and rebounds (7) for Ancilla. Brittany Adkins added nine points, while Sophia Baldwin pulled down seven rebounds in the loss.
Grand Rapids climbs to 21-3 overall and 15-1 in conference, while Ancilla drops to 3-20 and 1-14.Ancilla’s final regular season game of the year will be at home against Kellogg Community College (14-12, 7-7) on Friday, February 26, with the game beginning at 5:30 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

February 22: Lady Chargers Fall Short in Conference
For the second straight game, the Ancilla College women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker in Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference action. Visiting Kalamazoo Valley Community College came out victorious by a score of 59-55.
Up two points with under a minute left, Kalamazoo Valley (13-12, 9-5) missed the front end of a one-and-one, but were able to secure the rebound and sink two free throws to lock up the victory. Ancilla falls to 3-19 and 1-13 in the MCCAA West.
Sophia Baldwin led all scoring with 19 points and was Ancilla’s co-leader in rebounds (7). Lauren Shepherd added 11 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds to the cause, while Tiffany Leyva pulled down seven rebounds.
With a rescheduling of tonight’s game due to inclement weather, Ancilla’s next game is Wednesday, February 24, when the Lady Chargers will travel to Grand Rapids Community College (19-3, 13-1) and will return home on Friday, February 26 for their final regular season game of the year against Kellogg Community College (14-12, 7-7). Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

February 19: Solid Ancilla Performance Falls Short Against #17 LMC
A late comeback run by the Ancilla College women’s basketball team wasn’t enough against a solid Lake Michigan College team that maintained their lead in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference by defeating Ancilla 75-65.
The host Chargers (3-18, 1-12) found themselves behind by as many as thirty in the second half, but a 20-2 run midway through the half, cut the NJCAA #17 Indians’ (21-4, 13-1) lead to twelve and made the game much more interesting down the stretch.
Ancilla made a season high 11 three point field goals, while committing a season low 14 turnovers for the game.
Stacy Byers spent most of the game in foul trouble, but led Ancilla in scoring with 16 points in a limited 18 minutes of action. Lauren Shepherd added 14 points to the mix, while leading the Lady Chargers in assists (7) and steals (3).The Lady Chargers will host Kalamazoo Valley Community College (12-12, 8-5) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20. Saturday will be the Ancilla’s third annual Chargers for Change day, in which the men’s and women’s basketball teams’ proceeds will go toward the local Ounce of Prevention organization. Ounce of Prevention is an organization that provides breast cancer awareness, fundraising and events. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

February 17: Baldwin’s Career Night Not Enough for Lady Chargers
In the first of four straight home games in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference, the Ancilla College women’s basketball team fell short against Jackson Community College by a score of 59-52.
Ancilla College sophomore Sophia Baldwin did everything in her power to lead the Lady Chargers out of a twelve game losing streak, but to no avail. The 5’10” forward from Fountaintown, Indiana poured in a career high 25 points with 8-17 shooting from the field, including a 3-6 performance from behind the arc. She capped off her totals with 6-9 shooting from the free throw line. Baldwin also reached just the third double-double of her career by pulling down a game high 10 rebounds. Unfortunately the rest of the team shot just over 17% from the field on a night when no other Ancilla player reached double digits.Jackson (13-10, 7-5 MCCAA) climbs into a tie for third in the MCCAA West, while Ancilla (3-17, 1-11 MCCAA) will search for their second conference win on Wednesday night. The Lady Chargers will host conference leader and NJCAA #17 Lake Michigan College (20-4, 12-1 MCCAA) in a 5:30 p.m. tip off. February 15: First Half Turnovers Lead to Lady Chargers Loss
After almost a full week without a game, the Ancilla College women’s basketball team (3-16, 1-10 MCCAA) hit the road for a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference matchup against Lansing Community College (12-11, 6-7). Lansing prevailed 61-41.
Ancilla committed 19 of their 27 turnovers in the first half, trailing 32-19 at the half. Lansing turned the ball over just 16 times the entire game.
Stacy Byers was the only Lady Charger in double digits, finishing with 12. Tiffany Leyva led Ancilla with her second straight 11 rebound performance.Ancilla begins a stretch of four straight home games tonight, when they host Jackson Community College (12-10, 6-5) at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, February 17, MCCAA West Co-Leader and NJCAA #17 Lake Michigan comes to town to take on the Lady Chargers at 5:30 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

February 11: Ancilla Comeback Bid Falls Short
After being behind most of the game by a twenty point margin, the Ancilla women’s basketball team made a late run in the last ten minutes that fell short, losing to Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference foe Glen Oaks Community College 66-64.
For the first time this season, Ancilla (3-15, 1-9 MCCAA) had four players finish in double-digits, led by 18 points from Sophia Baldwin. Both Naomi McNeal and Lauren Shepherd dropped in 15 points, followed by a ten point effort from Stacy Byers. Tiffany Leyva led all rebounders with eleven.Ancilla’s next game is Wednesday, February 10, when they are scheduled to host Jackson Community College (12-10, 6-5 MCCAA). Game time is 5:30 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

January 29: Lady Chargers Struggle on the Road
The Ancilla College women’s basketball team dropped a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference road battle at Kellogg Community College (10-9, 4-4 MCCAA) by a score of 68-44.
Ancilla (3-13, 1-7 MCCAA) was led by Lauren Shepherd with her second straight double-digit performance. Shepherd finished the game with 12 points and 7 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. Co-rebounding leader Sophia Baldwin added nine points to the cause. Allison Worden led all players with five assists.Ancilla returns home to begin the second half of their MCCAA Western Conference schedule on Saturday, January 30, for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff against Glen Oaks Community College (3-16, 0-7 MCCAA).

January 25: Ancilla Women Stay Close with #1 GRCC
The women’s basketball team from Ancilla College hosted the top team in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference, Grand Rapids Community College, and lost 67-48.
Ancilla (3-12, 1-6 MCCAA) was within eight at the half, with Grand Rapids (13-2, 7-0 MCCAA) leading 31-23. The visiting Raiders pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Lady Chargers 36-25.
Ancilla’s Lauren Shepherd led all scoring and rebounding with 20 points and eight rebounds. Sophia Baldwin added 12 points, while Brittany Adkins added eight points and seven rebounds.Ancilla travels to Kellogg Community College (9-9, 3-4 MCCAA) on Wednesday, January 27 for a 5:30 p.m. start. They return home on Saturday, January 30, for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff against Glen Oaks Community College (3-15, 0-7 MCCAA).

January 21: Lady Chargers Struggle on the Road
The Ancilla College women’s basketball team dropped a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference game at Kalamazoo Valley Community College by a score of 69-42.
Stacy Byers netted a season and game high 15 points to lead Ancilla (3-11, 1-5 MCCAA). Naomi McNeal dropped in nine points while leading the Lady Chargers with four assists. Sophia Baldwin added eight points to the Ancilla total and added a team high nine rebounds.
Kalamazoo Valley jumps to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in conference.Ancilla returns home on Saturday, January 23 to take on Grand Rapids Community College (12-2, 6-0 MCCAA) at 1:00 p.m.

January 19: Second Half Positives Encourage Lady Chargers
The month-long drought continued for the Ancilla College women’s basketball team as they dropped a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference game at Lake Michigan College 86-56.
After going into the locker room down 42-20 at the half, Ancilla (3-10, 1-4 MCCAA) played a much better second half, getting outscored 44-36 by the host Indians (13-4, 5-1 MCCAA).
Lauren Shepherd led Ancilla with 18 points while contributing five rebounds and three assists to the effort. Sophia Baldwin was tops in rebounds (9) and assists (6), and in the process poured in 14 points.
Ancilla is back in action on Wednesday, January 20 at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (7-9, 3-2 MCCAA) for a 5:30 p.m. start. They return home on Saturday, January 23 to take on Grand Rapids Community College (11-2, 5-0 MCCAA) at 1:00 p.m.

January 13: Charger Women Struggle on the Road
The Ancilla women’s basketball team dropped their first Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference road game of the year, losing to Jackson Community College 82-36.
Ancilla (3-8, 1-2 MCCAA) failed to hit the 30% mark from the field and committed a season high 30 turnovers in the loss.
Sophia Baldwin led Ancilla with a game high double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Stacy Byers led the Lady Chargers with three assists, while Allison Worden and Brittany Adkins had three steals each, to lead the team.
Jackson (9-6, 3-1 MCCAA) shot exactly 50% from the field (32-64) and was led by Erika Bullock’s 13 points and 4 assists.Ancilla travels returns home on Wednesday, January 13 for a matchup against Lansing Community College (8-5, 2-2 MCCAA), starting at 5:30 p.m.

January 8: Ancilla Loses First Conference Game
In their first game of the new year, the Ancilla women’s basketball team played their second Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference game of the season, losing to visiting Muskegon Community College 83-48.
Muskegon (10-3, 1-0 MCCAA) held Ancilla (3-7, 1-1 MCCAA) under 30% from the field, while delivering at a 46.8% clip on their end of the floor.
Sophia Baldwin led Ancilla with 13 points, while pulling down six rebounds. Lauren Shepherd also contributed a double-digit performance, dropping in 10 points. Shepherd also grabbed six rebounds. Tiffany Leyva and Allison Worden led the Lady Chargers on the glass, snagging eight and seven rebounds respectively. Worden dished out four assists to lead the team, while Stacy Byers finished with a team high three steals.Ancilla travels to Jackson Community College (7-6, 1-1 MCCAA) on Monday, January 11 and returns home on Wednesday, January 13 for a matchup against Lansing Community College (6-5, 0-2 MCCAA). Both games start at 5:30 p.m.

December 14: Ancilla Women Split Finals Week Affairs
With Finals Week in the rear view mirror, the Ancilla College women’s basketball team is now able to look back at a 1-1 week in which they began their conference season on a winning note.
In their first game of the week, Ancilla (3-5, 1-0 MCCAA) traveled to Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference foe Glen Oaks Community College (3-7, 0-1 MCCAA). The visiting Chargers defeated the Vikings 65-59 in the first conference game of the season for both schools.
Ancilla found victory with a balanced attack, led by Sophia Baldwin (15 points), Brittany Adkins (13), Sabrina Hatfield (12), and Naomi McNeal (10). Baldwin and Nekea Sims were tops for the Lady Chargers with seven rebounds each, while Allison Worden led Ancilla with four assists.
After Glen Oaks, Ancilla moved forward with a game at NJCAA Honorable Mention Sinclair Community College (9-2). The Lady Chargers found themselves on the losing end of a 62-46 count against the Tartan Pride.
Baldwin again led Ancilla in scoring (12 points) and rebounds (8) while adding a team high three steals to the mix. Sims’ ten point effort was the only other double-digit total for the Lady Chargers.Ancilla players their final home game of 2009 on Wednesday, December 30, when they host Prairie State College at 6:00 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

December 7: Ancilla Falls at Home
In their last game before finals week on campus, the Ancilla College women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaking 65-64 game to visiting Oakland Community College.
It was a game in which Oakland (3-3) held the lead most of the night, getting as much as an eight point lead near the end of the first half. But Ancilla (2-4) fought back, regaining the lead in the second half at the 9:54 mark. The lead changed eight different times in the final ten minutes, with the most important change taking place just under one minute when Oakland took a 62-61 lead and held on for the victory.
Oakland’s Chanel Hernandez led all scorers with 20 points.
Ancilla was led with double-digit totals from Naomi McNeal (16), Sophia Baldwin (12), and Brittany Adkins (11). Allison Worden was tops in rebounds for both teams, finishing with 9.
The Lady Chargers begin their Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference season on the road this Wednesday, as they open up at Glen Oaks Community College (3-5). They will follow that up with their final two non-conference games of the year, traveling to Sinclair Community College on Saturday, December 12. Their final home game of 2009 will take place on Wednesday, December 30, when they host Prairie State College at 6:00 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

November 30: Ancilla Picks Up Non-Conference Win
The Ancilla College women’s basketball team picked up their second win of the season in a non-conference tilt against visiting Moraine Valley Community College by a score of 58-55.
Ancilla (2-3) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead to begin the game, holding Moraine Valley (3-3) scoreless until the 15:47 mark. The host Chargers held their lead until a last second shot by the visiting Cyclones tied it up at 23 going into the halftime break.
It was a back-and-forth affair for the first part of the second half, with Moraine Valley taking their largest lead of the game (3) at 15:25 remaining in the game. Ancilla fought back, again matching their largest lead of the game (7) at 8:53 to go. Moraine Valley would eventually tie up the contest at 53 going into the final two minutes, one of ten ties in the game.
The final two minutes came down to the basics of good pressure defense and making quality shots.
Moraine Valley’s Jackie Sims led all scoring with 22 points.  Ancilla was led by Sabrina Hatfield and Lauren Shepherd, who finished with 12 and 11 points respectively. Ancilla’s Sophia Baldwin led all rebounders with 11, while Shepherd dished out six assists to lead both teams.The Lady Chargers return to action on Friday, December 4, when they take on Oakland Community College for a 5:30 p.m. start, leading into the men’s game starting at approximately 7:30 p.m. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

November 24: Ancilla Struggles in First Road Contest
In their first road game of the season, the Ancilla women’s basketball team traveled to Edison Community College and dropped a 71-36 decision.
In their first four games, Ancilla (1-3) has faced Edison (4-0) twice, losing both contests.
Ancilla was held under 20% from the field for the game, making just 11 total field goals. Edison, on the other hand, shot over 40% for the game and spread their scoring among ten different players, being led with 14 points by Andrea Meyer.
Ancilla was led by Lauren Shepherd and Sabrina Hatfield, who finished with 13 and 11 points respectively. Allison Worden led the visiting Chargers in rebounds with eight.Ancilla returns home on Tuesday, November 24 to face NJCAA Honorable Mention Moraine Valley Community College for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Indiana.

November 16: Ancilla Earns First Win of Young Season
The Ancilla College women’s basketball team split a pair of games in the Ancilla Classic over the weekend, losing to Danville Area Community College 83-58, and then defeating Lake Land College 76-71.
In their first game, Ancilla (1-2) trailed Danville (2-3) by just one at the half, but shot just over 20% from the field in the second half, while Danville burned up the nets at a 43.4% pace for the game.
Naomi McNeal led Ancilla with 14 points, while Sophia Baldwin and Allison Worden pulled down 11 and 10 rebounds respectively to lead the Lady Chargers.
Ancilla’s first win of the season came through a phenomenal shooting pace from the field in the second half (58.3%), while holding Lake Land (2-2) to just 41% during the same frame.
Three Lady Chargers finished in double-digits. Lauren Shepherd led all scoring with 24 points, followed by Sophia Baldwin’s 17 and Naomi McNeal’s 16. Baldwin added seven rebounds to lead Ancilla.Ancilla travels to Edison Community College, who they lost to 79-55 in their first game of the season, for a 7:00 p.m. start on November 20. They return home on November 24 to face NJCAA Honorable Mention Moraine Valley Community College for another 7:00 p.m. tipoff. November 12: Ancilla’s Shepherd Tabbed with Pre-Season All-American Honors
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), in their list of thirty Division II Pre-Season All-Americans, named Ancilla College’s Lauren Shepherd to their roll of Second Team honorees.
The slashing 5’7” guard returns from a season in which she led the Lady Chargers with 15.6 points per game, while adding 6.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game to the mix.
Shepherd already holds Ancilla records for points scored in a game (35) and free throws attempted in a season (177), while inching into the top ten in many of Ancilla’s career scoring categories.
The sophomore will look to lead the Lady Chargers into another record-breaking season, after being a part a 2008-2009 squad that racked up the highest win total in school history (14).Ancilla’s (0-1) next action will be this Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, as they host the Ancilla Classic, facing Danville Area Community College (0-3) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night and Lake Land College (1-1) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. November 9: Ancilla Opens Women’s Basketball Season
The Ancilla College women’s basketball team opened up their season against a familiar foe. Edison Community College (1-0) and Ancilla (0-1) have met eleven different times in the history of Ancilla’s basketball program. More times than any other non-conference opponent. Their most recent match-up belonged to the visiting Chargers from Edison, as they handed Ancilla a 79-55 loss. Early runs in both halves hurt Ancilla. Edison jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the game and scored the first ten points of the second half, on their way to a 23-5 run to begin the second frame. By the 14 minute mark in the game, Edison had opened up the lead to over twenty and never allowed it go get below that mark the rest of the game. Lauren Shepherd led Ancilla with 24 points, while Neka Sims and Sophia Baldwin led the Lady Chargers with nine rebounds each. Edison was led by Andrea Meyer’s 23 points, including 7-10 shooting from beyond the three point arc. Ashley Rice completed a double-double for Edison, dropping in 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.Ancilla’s next action will be this Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, as they host the Ancilla Classic, facing Danville Community College at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night and Lake Land Community College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
