DONALDSON, INDIANA – Unusual weather calls for unusual events. Due to a rain-out earlier in the week and the full schedule of all teams in the MCCAA Western Conference, Ancilla College hosted Glen Oaks Community College in a triple header yesterday and won all three games in five innings by scores of 8-0, 12-1, and 9-1.
In the first game, the host Chargers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and Marissa Sullivan threw a three-hit shutout while striking out four to key the victory. Courtney Clark was 3-3 with 2 RBI for Ancilla.
Game number two saw Ancilla score eight runs in the first inning. Brianna McClellan andStephanie Lamm pitched a combined effort for the win. Katherine Grady was 3-3 with a RBI while Emily Wilbur and Sullivan added two hits each. Sullivan finished the game with 3 RBI, including a two-run home run.
Ancilla fell behind 1-0 in the first inning of game three, a game in which they played the role of the visiting team on their home field. The second inning was a different story as the Chargers put together a seven run frame behind a Clark pitching performance that scattered five hits and struck out four. Kayla Dell had two hits for Ancilla and drove in two runs. Kayleigh Schroder also added two RBI.
It was the first time in the history of Ancilla College softball that any team has won three games in the same day.
“It’s a tough task to win three games in one day,” started Ancilla coach Scott Reese.
“Add to the fact that we had just returned from a three-day road trip and I’m even more amazed at the effort of these young ladies. They stayed focused the entire day and I’m proud of how each person performed in each of their roles,” Reese said.
