Charger Soccer 2014 ready for kickoff

DONALDSON, IN – As a new school year approaches Ancilla College is set to launch its eighth soccer season.

The Chargers, reigning Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) conference champions, have been hard at work since the beginning of August. Returning and new team members are conditioning, practicing, and perfecting the fundamentals, all in preparation for the upcoming season.

In an effort to maintain his success and create a winning culture throughout his second season, Ancilla coach Adam Hall, who was the 2013-2014 MCCAA Coach of the Year, has brought in some fresh faces from all over the world. Hailing from Scotland are Dayle Robertson and Ryan Shanks.

Antonio Luna comes from Spain, while Denny Garcia is from Texas. “They are all tremendous soccer players and with their previous experiences’; they have a lot to offer our team,” Coach Hall said.

Andy Smith and Valdo Garcia are returning members of the Charger team, who according to Coach Hall are, “very competitive and hard-working young men.” He further added, “Their skillsets and leadership will rub off on others, paving the way for another successful season.”

Looking ahead at this season’s schedule, Coach Hall has added games against four-year institutions. This allows the Chargers to test themselves, plus showcase players, who wish continue their education and collegiate playing careers upon leaving Ancilla.

This year’s schedule will consist of twenty games, eight of which are MCCAA conference contests. The Chargers will host their first scrimmage this Wednesday, August 13, at 5 p.m. against the Saints of Holy Cross College.
