Coffee & A Book Dec 2

Ancilla Offers Third Coffee & A Book for 2013-2014 School Year

DONALDSON – The public is invited to join Chelsea Chalk, Assistant Professor of Communication at Ancilla College, as she discusses I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t): Making the Journey from “What Will People Think?” to “I am Enough” by Brené Brown.  This event will take place on Tuesday, December 2, from 7-8 p.m. at Earthworks Market located at 900 W. Jefferson St. in Plymouth.

iThoughtitWasMeIn her presentation, Chalk will facilitate a discussion about the author’s ideas on shame and guilt. In the book, Brown explores the time we spend managing perception rather than feeling free to be our “real” selves.  Brown states “our imperfections are what connect us to one another and to our humanity. Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are powerful reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the reality that we’re all in this together.”

Brown asks that readers have the “courage to be real” and compassion to “love ourselves and others.”

“Coffee and a Book” is a cultural series co-sponsored by the Ancilla College Humanities Division and Earthworks.
