Sure, you can add bookmarks to your computer, and if all you used was one computer, that would work fine. But you probably use multiple computers and maybe even multiple devices, and wouldn’t it be better if your bookmarks followed you, not your device?
There are social networks designed specifically for this! Delicious and StumbleUpon are just two that let you create an account that you can use to “store” your favorite websites. Since your bookmarks are tied to the account you set up and not to the computer you’re using, all you have to do is log into your account to access them–from any machine connected to the internet! Each bookmarking site is a little different, but all are wonderful tools!
Delicious & Diigo allow not just bookmarking but also sticky notes and highlighting, so that you can leave notes to yourself (why did I mark this page again?) or draw your attention to a specific section (I want to use this quote in my paper!). Install the toolbars to make it a little faster and easier to use the tools.
StumbleUpon allows you to find websites you might want to bookmark by letting you search for what other people have found.
