Men’s Soccer Earns Tie with Jackson

The Ancilla College men’s soccer team tied Jackson Community College 1-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

“We moved the ball quickly today and held most of the possession.  Jackson continued to look to counter and I thought our backline dealt with the pressure well,” Ancilla soccer coach Gallagher said.

Rene Mejia (Canton, MI) tended the net for 110 minutes and made 2 saves on the day.  Manny Awuku (Hornchurch, UK) added his fifth goal of the season with a half volley that stunned the Jackson goalkeeper in the 25th minute.  Jackson tied the match in the 62nd minute and the game ended in a tie following two overtime periods.

Gallagher added, “We will continue to play to our strengths and will look to capitalize on our chances more often.  I really thought there was standout play by our central midfielders, Ignacio Avilles (La Habra, CA) and Carlos Ramirez (El Paso, TX).  To see how they complement one another and stretch the opponent is a delight to watch.”

The Charger’s next game is at home Saturday, September 29th 11 a.m. against Lakeland Community College.
