Why study Education?

Ancilla College offers an Associate of Science degree with focused courses and experiences in elementary education. The degree provides a foundation for students interested in the field of education as it prepares future teachers for advanced course work at a senior institution required for a teaching license. Ancilla Elementary Education graduates can use their A.S. degree and become substitute teachers in area classrooms or transfer and earn a bachelor’s degree in education and a teaching license. Students will find their credits are accepted at regional colleges and universities.

‘El Ed’ students master a broad base of liberal arts education while also gaining firsthand knowledge of teaching and learning through visits and observations to area classrooms. Coursework focuses on child development and learning, on cultural diversity, on multi-disciplinary knowledge, and on various teaching pedagogies. Field experiences in diverse settings are part of the program as well.
