Secondary Education

Why study Secondary Education?

Ancilla faculty design learning experiences that challenge their students to think more broadly about their own lives and potential careers. Ancilla offers an Associate of Science degree that mixes liberal arts coursework with subject-specific teaching experiences while also giving them a foundation as well as preparation for advanced coursework demands of a Bachelor’s Degree program at a senior institution.

As lifelong learners, teacher candidates will have gained practical and theoretical knowledge to equip them with necessary skills to effectively engage and hold learners’ attention while also taking into account exceptionalities, diversity, and learning styles.

This degree will provide a solid foundation for students in understanding how children grow and develop and be able to identify common physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes that characterize those developmental periods. Students will also gain firsthand knowledge of the demands of a teaching career by the many hours of observations and/or field experience in local schools.
