Why study Theology?

Theology is a combination of the Greek words, theos and logos, literally meaning, “the study of God.” St. Anslem defines Christian Theology as “faith seeking understanding,” or “an active love of God seeking a deeper knowledge of God.” Theology seeks to answer all questions of human concern, in all fields of human knowing, in light of the Revelation of God in Jesus Christ.

If you are a person of faith and want to know about things like the nature of God, how the Bible developed, what it means to be created in the Image of God, why people suffer, and how all things are redeemed in Jesus Christ, then a major in Theology would be good choice for you.

Ancilla College promotes a diverse community of scholars who advance the teaching and study of Theology in an ecumenical context and tone, but grounded in the Roman Catholic Tradition. In keeping with that tradition, the program seeks to inculcate knowledge and respect for the many Christian denominations and other religious traditions. Students graduating from Ancilla will leave with an education strongly rooted in Christian Doctrine and Biblical faith, as well as the ability to comfortably dialogue with people from almost any religious background.
