Scholarships

Ancilla College offers a wide variety of scholarships to help you achieve your dreams!

Students applying for Ancilla College Scholarships must submit a FAFSA form.  For more information, please click on the name of the scholarship.

Please note the deadlines for scholarships. Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed for an award. All applications re-open Jan. 1 of each year.

New! Earn to Learn Scholarship

The Ancilla College Earn to Learn Program offers a renewable $1000 scholarship each semester a student is in the program. The award is based on a combination of financial need, scholastic ability, and educational and career goals. Applicants must submit a minimum 200 word typed essay to be included with the application form. The essay should explain why you are attending Ancilla College and what role you believe this working opportunity will play in your choice of major and your future profession.

Internship credit can be arranged in some instances, depending on the type of work the position requires.

Students will Work and Learn in one of these areas:

Work and Learn in the Library, the Registrar’s Office, Ecological Relationships, Institutional Research Office, Moon Tree, Student Government, the Goat Barn and/or the Grain and Beef Farm, Communications, Residence Life and Campus Ministry or the Alumni Development.

Please indicate in the application below which Earn to Learn Scholarship you are applying.

Requirements:

  • Scholar must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher each semester to qualify for the scholarship.
  • Scholar qualifies for Work Study on FAFSA
  • Scholar must work at least 10 hours per week.
  • Scholar will receive 1-3 credit hours (dependent on how many hours worked).
  • Scholar receives a job description and a mentor; evaluations are integrated into the program.
  • Scholar learns of the PHJC professor through stories told by PHJCs.
  • Scholar will join Sisters each semester for dinner and storytelling.

Autism Program at Ancilla (APAC) Scholarship

The APAC Scholarship is awarded in amounts up to $2,000 which will be applied to the APAC fees for 2019-2020 academic year. If awarded, half of the total amount will be applied to Fall 2019 and half to Spring 2020 balances.

Applicant Requirements:

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Participate in the Autism Program at Ancilla College (APAC)
  • Enrolled full-time

Only completed applications will be reviewed. 

Applicant Questions:

Submit answers to the following questions carefully and thoughtfully (200-word minimum each).

  1. List three reasons why you chose to attend Ancilla College:
  2. What career field do you want to enter after school, and why?
  3. Explain three ways your chosen career field is important in today’s society?
  4. Pick a controversial problem on college campuses and suggest a solution.

Academic Dean's Scholarship

Requirements

  • To be considered you must be enrolled at Ancilla College with a minimum GPA of 3.5.

  • Must submit a minimum 500 word or more typed essay, entitled Why I am deserving of the Academic Dean’s Scholarship.

Awards are based on sufficient scholarship and financial need.

Ancilla Alumni Association Scholarship

The Ancilla College Alumni Association offers a yearly scholarship to students. The award is based on a combination of financial need, scholastic ability, educational goals, community involvement and college or alumni engagement. Preference will be given to family of Ancilla Alumni.

Applicants must submit a minimum 200 word typed essay to be included with the application form. The essay should explain why you are attending Ancilla College and what role you have played in your community. Please indicate in your essay if someone in your family attended Ancilla in the past.

Ancilla Transfer Scholarship

The Transfer Scholarship is designed to help students who want to transfer to Ancilla College.

Many students at Ancilla are adult students looking to restart or redirect their education. The transfer scholarship is a grant designed to encourage you to continue your education at Ancilla College after attending another college or university. It’s available to you if you have not earned a college degree but attempted more than 12 credit hours at any college or university.

You will need to complete Ancilla College’s admissions application (at no cost) and submit a transcript from each college you attended. There is no application filing deadline. The scholarship is renewable each year for up to four semesters based on continued academic success.

The Transfer Scholarship is based on your earned GPA at previous schools and is based on full-time enrollment. Part-time enrollment will cut these awards by half (check with the Financial Aid Office for details).

Ancilla Valedictorian & Salutatorian Scholarship

Graduating at the top of your class often means being honored by your high school and giving a speech at graduation. Ancilla College will do quite a bit more to honor your hard work.

Ancilla College offers full tuition scholarships to valedictorians.

Graduates in the very top of their class from high schools in 10 north-central Indiana counties can receive a scholarship of free full time tuition, each year, to local graduates who attend the college. It is offered to the top students from public and private high schools in Marshall, Fulton, Porter, Pulaski, Jasper, Starke, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, and Kosciusko counties.

Students graduating from these counties and named as salutatorians by their high school will be offered up to $10,000 toward full-time enrollment at Ancilla College.

Bowen Scholarship

The Bowen Scholarship is open to high school graduates, transfer students and current Ancilla students who will be full or part-time students at Ancilla College. The amount of the award is based on financial need and the most current scholastic work.

Requirements: 

  • Minimum high school/college GPA of 2.75
  • Must be a resident of Marshall County with preference given to Bremen, Indiana residents.
  • Award amount varies.
  • Application deadline: April 30th
Catholic Student Scholarship

The Ancilla Catholic Scholarship is open to high school graduates and transfer students who are active members of the Catholic Church.

The scholarship award is an annual $1,000 (or pro-rated for part-time students) in Fall and Spring semesters only. This grant is renewable for one additional year .

Requirements:

  • Complete and submit this Catholic Scholarship Form (fax: 574-935-1773  or email:  admissions@ancilla.edu)
  • Students are asked to provide a letter of support from a qualified church representative indicating they are a practicing Roman Catholic
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 in high school or previous college
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA at Ancilla to keep the scholarship
  • Application deadline: 1st day of 1st term of attendance
Clarence and Mary Jane Rouch Scholarship

The Clarence and Mary Jane Rouch scholarship is open to graduating seniors from LaVille Junior-Senior High School in Lakeville, IN.

Dennis Emmons Memorial Scholarship

It was the wish of Dennis Emmons Jr. (Ancilla ’79) of Plymouth, Indiana, to establish a scholarship fund in his name to help Ancilla College students with their college education costs.

The Emmons Scholarship is available to full-time students at Ancilla and preference is given to non-traditional students. The recipient of this scholarship will receive up to $1,000 in tuition assistance for one academic year and may re-apply for one additional year while enrolled at Ancilla College (to be awarded at the beginning of each semester).

Requirements:

  • Application deadline: April 30

  • The recipient of this scholarship will be a person of the highest integrity.
  • Must be a resident of Marshall County, Indiana.
  • Must have a 2.0 GPA (C) or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Must attach short essay written on the theme, What winning this scholarship would mean to me  (attach a separate document to the online application).
FFA/4-H Leadership Scholarship

The Ancilla FFA/4-H Leadership Scholarship is open to high school graduates, continuing Ancilla students, and transfer students who are active members of the National FFA or their local 4-H club.

The FFA/4-H Leadership Scholarship will be awarded to three students selected for $2,000, $1,000 or $500 annual awards, it may be renewable, but students must reapply each year.

Students, who are active members of the FFA/4-H, will produce a video on “Why Agriculture is Important” no more than 10 minutes long, explaining why they want to pursue a degree in Agriculture. The video should be produced by the student but can include high school FFA peers, 4-H club members and leaders, teachers, and family members. Awardees will be selected for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place scholarships, by Ancilla College faculty and a select award committee, based on the presentation of ideas and goals, originality, and clarity.

All scholarships are paid to students with the understanding that the money will be used for Ancilla College tuition, fees, books, and equipment required for classes to attain a degree in Agriculture (Animal Science or Crop Science) from Ancilla College.

Requirements:

  • Please complete the application below. The following criteria are required:

    • Complete and submit a video Why Agriculture is Important to be reviewed by an award committee at Ancilla.
      • no more than 10 minutes long, created and produced by you
      • explaining why you want to pursue a degree in Agriculture
      • your video can include high school FFA peers, 4-H club members and leaders, teachers, and family members
      • your video should include your ag related experiences, FFA/4-H  and other awards, educational achievements, and goals for the future
    • Videos will be selected based on your clarity of purpose, creative expression, and the expression of your plans.
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in high school or previous college
    • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA at Ancilla to keep the scholarship
    • Application deadline: April 30th 
Gene and Marsha Reese Family Scholarship

The Gene and Marsha Reese Family Scholarship is designed to support the educational goals of Ancilla students from the Walkerton, Indiana area.  The award is up to $1,000 per student for the cost of books.

The Reese Family Scholarship was created to thank the John Glenn School Corporation and its community for their support of the Reese family.  The Reese Family Scholarship gives preference to/but is not exclusive to a John Glenn student/athlete (s) going on to Ancilla College.

Our family is also a strong proponent of the idea that education in most situations is a predictor of future success. Our family wishes to give back to JGSC, the community and Ancilla College. Three family members have graduated from JGSC. Three Family members have worked for the JGSC. One family member went to Ancilla College and one works there.  It is scholarship to help pay for books at Ancilla College.

Requirements:

  • Applicants will be reviewed based on the requirements below with a preference given to John Glenn High School student-athletes or team managers.
    • Students must enroll full-time at Ancilla
    • The student-athlete must have a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
    • Two letters of recommendation: one from a John Glenn teacher and the second letter must be a character reference.
    • A one-page essay written on the theme The Value of Athletics

Gladys Pippenger Nursing Scholarship

The Gladys Pippenger Nursing Scholarship was established as a memorial by her family and friends in support of future nurses who exhibit a commitment to patients, the nursing profession and family.

Requirements:

  • Admission into the Ancilla College Nursing program (ASN)
  • Type and submit a 300 to 500 word essay on how you envision yourself: Impacting the Ancilla College nursing students of tomorrow  or  Promoting the nursing profession.

Henry & Gladys Lee Willhite Minority Scholarship

The Henry and Gladys Lee Willhite Minority Scholarship is available to a new, full-time minority student pursuing an associate degree at Ancilla College.  The award amount varies.

Requirements:

  • Application Deadline: April 30

  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Must be a resident of Marshall County
  • Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Write a 250-word essay on the theme,  How I can be a positive influence in today’s society and in my community.
James and Kathleen Jones Scholarship

The James and Kathleen Jones Scholarship is for a first year, first-generation, full or part-time student commuting from Starke or Marshall County. A high school GPA of minimum 2.0 is required.

Requirements:

  • First-generation college and commuter student with demonstrated financial need from Marshall or Starke County that have applied for all other Federal and State financial aid grants for which they are eligible.
  • A minimum 2.0 High School GPA is required.
  • Include a written statement of goals for potential career plans along with explanation of strategies to reach those goals.

Note: Scholarship amount will be $1,000 per semester ($2,000 per year), and is renewable in the second year if a 2.5 GPA is achieved. All family members of James and Kathleen Jones are not eligible to apply. The recipient of the scholarship will be selected by James and Kathleen Jones.

Mary H. Swanson Nursing Scholarship

The Mary H. Swanson Nursing Scholarship is open to any student who has met the requirements for acceptance into the Ancilla College Nursing Program. Preference is given to those already employed by the Catherine Kasper Life Center.

Requirements:

  • A one-page typed paper describing your commitment to the nursing field.

Mildred Johnson Scholarship for Nursing Students

The Mildred Johnson Scholarship is designed to support the educational efforts of Ancilla nursing students. This scholarship is open to any student who has met the requirements for acceptance into the Ancilla College Nursing Program. The scholarship award amount is $1,000.

Requirements:

  • Must be accepted into the Ancilla College Nursing program (ASN)
  • A one-page typed essay describing your commitment to the nursing field.

NIPSCo Scholarship

In keeping with its commitment to foster positive relationships in the communities it serves, NIPSCO has created an academic scholarship at Ancilla College of up to $1,500 per year for Ancilla students from northern Indiana.

Requirements:

  • GPA of 2.75 or higher, with track record of community service preferred
  • Attendance record of 80 percent or higher in all classes.
  • By the next fall, will begin the second year as a full time student

Osborn/Butler Scholarship

The Osborn-Butler Scholarship is available to continuing full or part-time Ancilla students working toward the completion of an Associate’s Degree. Students may receive up to $500 and the number of awards varies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.
  • Must be an Indiana resident.

PACE Scholarship

Taking placement tests at Ancilla are no problem, and they may earn you scholarship money!  The Placement Achievement for College Education Scholarship (PACE) is designed to encourage nontraditional students who wish to return or start a college education. The award amounts, $2,500 or $1,500, are based on scores obtained on the College Placement Test.

Requirements:

  • 21-years of age or older and have attempted no more than 12 college credit hours at another college or university.
  • must complete the College Placement Test administered at no cost on Ancilla’s campus.
  • student must score above a certain level on at least three of the five tests.  (See the Testing Center or the office of Financial Aid for more details.)
The PHJC Student Success Scholarship

 

The College Success Scholarship is sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ to support students who may have struggled or suffered a setback during high school, but still work to earn a college degree. There is no application required. The PHJC Scholarship is open to non-student-athletes, based on high school grades (you must earn a GPA of between 2.5 and 2.99), and ACT or SAT scores (whichever are higher).

REAch Scholarship

The Rewarding Excellent Achievements (REAch) Scholarship can be obtained by any high school graduate under the age of 21 (prior to the start of class this coming fall semester) and who has not already obtained more than 12 college credits.

The Reach Scholarship is designed to support students who have worked to achieve academic success in high school and seek a college degree as part of their educational journey. The scholarship is renewable for every year the student remains in full time status and retains a 2.5 Ancilla College GPA or better.

The Reach Scholarship is not affected by financial need and is available to any incoming student who meets the criteria in the chart, below.

Requirements:

  • Open to full-time students only.

In order to be considered for a REAch Scholarship, a student must complete Ancilla College’s admissions application, submit their high school transcript and provide SAT or ACT test scores. Ancilla rewards students who finish high school with high grades and above average achievement scores on college entrance tests like the SAT and ACT.

Robert & Margaret Koch-Bomarko Founders Scholarship

The Koch-Bomarko Founders Scholarship was created to support the successful college education of students from Plymouth, Indiana and the surrounding high schools.

Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of any school corporation of Argos, Bremen, Culver, LaVille, Plymouth or Triton, Indiana
  • And/Or be a child of an employee of Bomarko in Plymouth, IN.
  • Must have an accumulative high school academic record of a B average or better.

The scholarship can be granted over continuous semesters, but a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester is required.

The award amount varies.

Rotary Nursing Scholarship

The Rotary Club Nursing Scholarship supports nursing students from Marshall County, IN.

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Marshall County, IN.
  • Admitted to and attending the Ancilla College Nursing Program

Saint Elizabeth Scholarship

The Saint Elizabeth Fund was set up by Elizabeth Gallagher to provide scholarship funding for new or currently enrolled male nursing students at Ancilla College.

Requirements:

  • Male students admitted to the Ancilla College Nursing Program.

Savina Kralis Nursing Scholarship

The purpose of the Savina Kralis Scholarship is to provide scholarship grants to worthy and needy students pursuing a course of study in Nursing and related studies at Ancilla College.

Shields Family Athletic Grant

The Shields Family Athletic Grant is to be used for tuition and awarded to an incoming athlete who will be a full time Ancilla student, with at least a 2.0 High School GPA (C average or higher) ~ or to a present Ancilla student/athlete who has maintained at least a 2.0 GPA while attending the College. Application deadline is April 30. Submit a letter of recommendation from your high school and fill out the online grant application.

The athlete should have exemplary recommendations from their high school with the potential to either be or become a campus leader and role model.

Sister Joel Lampen Memorial Scholarship

The Sr. Joel Lampen Scholarship is open to new or continuing full or part-time students at Ancilla.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.
  • Write a 500-word essay on the topic of values in education.

The total award amount varies and is based, in part, on your financial need.

Sister Mary Dolores Alumni Scholarship

The Sr. Mary Dolores Alumni Scholarship is open to all Ancilla alumni and their family.

Requirements:

  • Applicants parent must have completed 30 credit hours or more at Ancilla.
  • An essay of 100 words or less is required on why you are attending Ancilla with a description of your goals, post-Ancilla ambitions and community involvement.

Award amount varies.

Sister Victoriana Memorial Scholarship

The Sr. Victoriana Scholarship is an educational grant supported by the generous donations of Mr. & Mrs. John & Diane Shields.   The scholarship was started in 1988 and has been given to an Ancilla student for 23 consecutive years.

Sister Victoriana Kuech, born in Germany, was the oldest of five children and immigrated to the United States in 1923 at the age of 15 to care for an ill aunt living in Chicago, who was a member of the “Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.”

Sister Victoriana later joined the order and chose the role of teacher upon earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Science.  She taught many years at an orphanage in Chicago, and other locations in the Midwest as well.
In 1963, Sr. Victoriana began teaching at Ancilla High School and was later appointed to the Ancilla College faculty where she taught both Biology and Geology.

Retiring in 1967 after 50 years of teaching, Sister Victoriana continued her service to fellow sisters in the Ancilla Domini community as well as to disadvantaged people in the surrounding area.  She also continued her volunteer services to the American Red Cross and Civil Defense.  Sister Victoriana was a gentle, kind, compassionate and completely selfless lady who loved nature.  She died in 1992 and is laid to rest in the Mount Carmel Cemetery located on the grounds of the Convent in Donaldson.

The scholarship is designed to support and inspire students to model Sister Victoriana’s exceptional qualities in serving the needs of mankind.

Requirements:

  • To be considered for this award the student must be a college student enrolled in at least six credit hours at Ancilla with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Students must write a 100-word paragraph describing their involvement in local or regional civic organizations and describe what that involvement means to them.

Award amount varies.

Starke Hospital Health Science Scholarship

The IU Health Starke Hospital Health Science Scholarship is sponsored by one of Indiana’s largest health care organizations. The Medical Staff of Indiana University Health Starke Hospital is committed to improving the health of our patients and communities.

“To further that commitment we have established this non-renewable $500.00 scholarship to help support residents of Starke County in their educational goals so they may one day become our colleagues and join us in improving our patients and residents health and well being.”

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Starke County, Indiana.
  • Must be enrolled in the Ancilla College Health Science program.

Starke Hospital Nursing Scholarship

The IU Health Starke Hospital Nursing Scholarship is sponsored by one of Indiana’s largest health care organizations. The Medical Staff of Indiana University Health Starke Hospital is committed to improving the health of our patients and communities.

“To further that commitment we have established this non-renewable $500.00 scholarship to help support residents of Starke County in their educational goals so they may one day become our colleagues and join us in improving our patients and residents health and well being.”

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Starke County, Indiana.
  • Must be enrolled in the Ancilla College Nursing program (ASN)

Tri Kappa Scholarship

The Tri Kappa Scholarship is funded with the support of Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc., a unique Indiana philanthropic organization.

Requirements:

  • Must be an Ancilla College Nursing student who is a resident of Marshall County.
  • Will begin the final year of study in the Nursing Program.

Award amount varies.

UPS Scholarship

The United Parcel Service and the Foundation for Independent Higher Education provide funds for part-time or full-time continuing Ancilla College students.

“Each year since 1985, the Foundation for Independent Higher Education has awarded grants to State Fund Members to provide UPS Scholarships to every private college and university in the State Fund network. The scholarships are given in the name of UPS, whose financial support was the basis for the CIC-FIHE endowment.  Over the years, FIHE (now CIC) has been pleased to award over $47 million in scholarship grants to its State Fund Members for the benefit of more than 16,000 deserving students at independent colleges across the country.”

Requirements:

  • You must have completed at least 12 credit hours.
  • Part-time or full-time continuing Ancilla College students who have completed at least 12 credit hours
  • GPA of 2.5 (or above)
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Preference is given to children of United Parcel Service (UPS) employees. The number of awards varies.

The UPS Scholarship award is given to a single recipient for $2,400.

Winnie Brown Memorial Scholarship

The Winnie Brown Memorial Scholarship is open to continuing, non-traditional students (23 years or older) with full or part-time status. Several scholarships are available and award amounts vary.

Requirements:

  • Completed application.
  • An essay of 100 words or less is required on why you are returning to college and describe your goals and ambitions, and community involvement.
